I believe in beauty. No, not make-up covered, hair done, clothes perfectly styled type of media based “beauty”. I believe in wake-up from a night’s rest, throw on the first shirt that makes you comfortable and throw your tattered hair into a pony tail confidently walking out the door, because you see yourself, and you love yourself.
I believe in intelligence, in someone who is not afraid to hide how smart they are; not afraid to hide their quirks, their neediness or their “weird” flag. I believe in knowing who you are, in finding yourself unattached to another and dating yourself (treating yourself) because you deserve to be pampered, by yourself. Because you are beautiful, not just on the outside, but on the inside. I believe no one is ordinary. We are all imperfect, but those imperfections make us beautiful. We are all battling our own demons, yet we keep trekking forth. We keep our heads up and live day-by-day, no matter how good or bad those days are. We keep on living, finding beauty in the world around us, smiling even on the darkest days, and being perfectly fine with having an off day.
Beauty to me is the girl who doesn’t spend hundreds of dollars on foundation, mascara, eye shadow, etc. She’s the girl who is comfortable with her imperfections and is ok with showing the world her face full of freckles and her messy, tangled curls. The girl who is sitting in the library on coffee number 3 and hour 5, preparing for a final that will allow her to gain a degree and obtain her dream job, she’s beautiful. The girl who doesn’t need brand-name clothes and accessories, she’s perfectly fine with shopping clearance and saving money rather than spending on materialism; also beautiful. Beauty to me isn’t flawless, make-up covered skin, perfectly fitted designer clothes and a body of a swim-suit model. To me, beauty is acceptance of yourself, being your most healthy self and your most happy self.
This is a rant. A rant about how social media portrays women and how I just want our youth, our future to worry less about the materialism and what media says is, and more about knowing what is going on in the world, knowing who they are and what they want. That to me is beauty.
