A world of waiting, but what about living?

Sometimes I think to myself: why do people always seem to be “waiting” for something? They wait to fall in love. They wait for a certain season, a certain day of the week. Why are we missing out on the here and now because we just “can’t wait” for the future?

Everyone wants a dream, a wish, a fairytale. But fairy tales don’t exist. Wishes don’t magically come true. As for dreams, you have to make them happen. Is waiting around for “things to fall into place” really worth it when you could go out and experience what’s in place now?

I feel like waiting around for life to happen and to fall in love is a waste of such precious moments of life. You miss out on so much in life that is meaningful while waiting for these dreams to come true. Why wait for someone to walk into your life, when you could go out and live it for yourself? Happiness, true happiness, comes when you realize that this moment, here and now, is beautiful and you can do so much with that time rather than wait. Before you know it this moment shall be gone and you will have missed out on so much.

This is what I have found in myself lately. I have realized that waiting is such a superfluous thing to do. I missed out on so much of the things I wanted to do for myself because I was waiting for something that never came. I was so hung up on the future that I forgot to live in the present. I believe that meditating and yoga has brought me to this new perspective in life. I had read the novel “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle a few years ago, but I never truly put it into practice in my life, until recently. When a thought comes into my mind that dwells on waiting for something, I acknowledge it and then let it go so that I can focus on what is happening right at this moment in my life.

I hope that you to can begin to look inwards and realize that you are missing out on so much of your life, of being happy, by waiting for “something better,” “something else,” “someone,” etc. I hope that you experience the moments in your life and except that you can not change the past and you can not live in the future, so begin to focus on the now and live life to its fullest.
