I have been on winter break from graduate school since December 13th. Over the fall semester, I was swamped with research journals, articles and ample amount of study time. I had no time for recreational reading, one of my favorite hobbies.
Ever since I was younger, books have taken me to places I could only go with my imagination. My family is not one to read, but I have found an escape and love for books. That being said, you could only imagine my yearning for a book while reading the necessary texts on articulation and research of speech. I was in a sort of book-less hell.
So as soon as the semester ended, I hopped into my car headed to my hometown for the holidays and stopped at the nearest bookstore to grab myself a copy of the latest book in the Divergent series. I am a huge Hunger Games fan and started reading the Divergent series to fill the void the Hunger Games left after reading. I had already read the first two books in the series and the new one was released in November. I decided to re-read the series in order to brush up on the details behind the story. Three books down in a week of break. My imagination had been jump-started, I was craving for more. I went and took a recommendation from the bookstore and bought the book “Legend” by Marie Lu, another dystopian novel. It fed my imagination and once finished I picked up the next book in the series. In the past three weeks I have read 5 books and am currently on “Champion” the third book in the Legend series. I may be a 25-year-old graduate student, studying the speech and language systems, but my imagination runs amok. It’s a great feeling to escape into a world apart from my own. I enjoy reading and I feel like it exercises my brain.
If I were to recommend anything to anyone on any given day: it would be to read. Read often. Read anything. Read for pleasure. Read for facts. Read to better yourself. You won’t regret it.
Well another Rambling has come to an end. I hope you read and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. In this new year, set a goal for yourself to read more. Your imagination will thank you.
